What happened?

GoZync was invented about ten years ago when keeping FileMaker Go connected to a FileMaker server was a significant challenge. The connection was finicky, and cell coverage was weak. GoZync offered a reliable solution to these problems. John Sindelar from SeedCode and I had a lot of fun figuring out to get around these challenges and for years it was the best way to build reliable offline mobile apps with FileMaker Go.

However today the conditions are not the same as they were 10 years ago.  FileMaker Go connecting live to a FileMaker server works well enough for now for most cases. For the truly offline use cases there are other ways to approach building a FileMaker Go app that talks to a FileMaker Server, that can be very effective. We see more and more people taking that route.

Given these trends, it simply doesn’t make sense to offer GoZync as a commercial solution anymore.

GoZync will not stop working.  It will work in FileMaker 19 and probably far beyond.  At its core, GoZync is just FileMaker. However, we will only be supporting it through our tech support line for 1 more yr. It will no longer be supported after July 30th, 2022.

Before that time, we will release an unlocked version of GoZync to purchasers.  It will be available through your account in our store. This will allow you maintain your GoZync implementation on your own for as long as you want to.

The documentation site will stay up forever.

This was a difficult decision, but one we felt we had to make. Thank you for using GoZync and we hope you can continue to use it for as long as you like.
