Gives you a high level overview of a FileMaker system. It’s designed to give you some indication of the complexity and potential problems in a FileMaker application – indispensable for a project that you have inherited!
Here are just a few of the details called out by the Report Card
How well are the scripts written?
The Report Card details the count and percentage of script steps that are comments and whitespace, since well-written scripts are likely to use comments and whitespace. It also details the number of scripts that run with Full Access.
Are themes well organized?
If a solution doesn’t use themes to its advantage, maintaining the look and feel can be difficult. The Report Card can tell you the how many custom styles are unused.
How are global $$variables used?
Problems with global $$variables can be difficult to track to down. So the number of them and how they are used can give you some indication if the custom application may be susceptible to problems with global state.
Dave Ramsey, the creator of FMPerception had this to say about the Report Card
The use case that we have targeted first is the following: “I have never seen this system before, and I’m sitting down to talk to the customer in 5 minutes. What do I need to know before I start talking about complexity, issues, timelines, etc?”
