In the Discover phase of a project, we listen and we ask questions. Our goal is to fully understand your objectives, and to uncover any missing details and unspoken assumptions before we get deep into the project or a feature.
Next we define what we are going to do, and the outcomes we expect. We also prioritize the tasks, schedule them, and assign them to team members.
During this stage we are actively creating features we planned in the previous phase, and perform QA testing on each feature.
Next we deliver the features to the production server for you to try out in the real world.
We gather any feedback from the previous phase as part of a new “Discover” cycle.
In this first phase we will make sure that we understand as much as we can about the system before we begin writing code. We are looking to uncover hidden assumptions and missing details. This is a critical part of the project because it is very common for details to get overlooked in the excitement of the project launch.
Although it isn’t possible to completely remove the possibility of missing something, this process will greatly reduce the likelyhood of something major getting uncovered later in the process.
During this phase will need access to the people at your company that can answer our questions about the business processes we’ll be automating.
We’ll present what we learn to you so you can confirm that we have understood you correctly. We may go through a few rounds of this back and forth until we are all satisfied that we have it down.
In this phase we plan what we are going to do. We will break the project down into the smallest meaningful useable chunks we can. We do this so that we can plan to deploy useful software to you as soon as possible.
Once the project or features are broken down we will prioritize the features and setup a development schedule. We’ll share that schedule with you so you can provide feedback on it.
During this phase we will work on the features of the system. We’ll complete each feature that was defined in the previous phase a few at a time. Once they go through some testing they will be ready to move on to the “Deliver” phase.
We deliver the new applications or features to you, for you to test, use and provide feedback. We gather up that feedback and add it to the next Discover phase.
For many of our projects, we’ll have a separate development and / or staging server setup for you test the new features before they go live. Then we’ll migrate the new features to your production server. Our data migration tool, Otto makes this a snap.
